Man Arrested After Flipping Stolen Car Hauler on I-83

Man who flipped stolen car hauler on I-83 had Dominican Republic ID, no CDL

Police have arrested a man who allegedly stole a car hauler tractor-trailer, crashed it on Interstate 83, and fled the scene on foot. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Ramon Vasquez-Fajardo, was carrying identification from the Dominican Republic and a New Jersey driver’s license, but no commercial driver’s license.

The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on May 12 in Fairview Township, Pennsylvania, when the vehicle overturned in a ditch along the highway. Several cars being transported ended up lined along the roadside, as documented in photos from the scene.

According to witnesses, Vasquez-Fajardo climbed out of the wrecked truck and walked away. Police later apprehended him.

Authorities contacted the legitimate owner of the car hauler, who was unaware his vehicle had been stolen until that moment. The York Dispatch reported that the owner arrived at the crash site and confirmed the wrecked truck was indeed his property.

Making matters worse, investigators discovered one of the vehicles being transported on the hauler was also stolen.

Vasquez-Fajardo now faces three counts of receiving stolen property. Additional charges include accidents involving damage to an unattended vehicle, reckless driving, and driving without a commercial driver’s license.

A judge has set bail at $50,000.

The incident temporarily disrupted early morning traffic along the busy interstate corridor while crews worked to clear the wreckage.
