Manhunt for 10 Inmates After Escape from New Orleans Jail

Manhunt Underway After 11 Inmates Escape Louisiana Jail, Authorities Warn Public

Louisiana authorities have issued a public warning after 11 inmates escaped from a New Orleans jail early Friday morning. Law enforcement agencies across the state have mobilized in what has become a multi-agency manhunt for the fugitives, who officials describe as “armed and dangerous.”

The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office discovered the inmates were missing during a routine headcount conducted at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. The escapees include Antoine Massey, Lenton Vanburen, Leo Tate, Kendell Myles, Derrick Groves, Jermain Donald, Corey Boyd, Gary Price, Robert Mood, Decannon Dennis, and Keith Lewis.

In a small breakthrough, Louisiana State Police confirmed that one inmate, Kendall Myles, has been recaptured in the French Quarter. Ten others remain at large.

The situation is particularly concerning as CBS News reports that several of the escaped inmates were facing charges for murder and other violent crimes. Local residents are being urged to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity immediately.

“These individuals should not be approached under any circumstances,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson said in a statement Friday afternoon. “We’re asking the public to remain vigilant and contact authorities with any information.”

The search effort has expanded rapidly. Multiple agencies including the FBI and U.S. Marshals have joined local and state law enforcement in the manhunt.

Authorities have not yet disclosed how the inmates managed to escape. The investigation into the security breach is ongoing alongside recovery efforts.

Officials are expected to provide additional updates as the situation develops.
